08-05 English Breakfast

The English breakfast, also known as “full English breakfast” is a complete meal consisting of bacon, eggs, British sausage, backed beans, fried tomato, fried mushrooms, black pudding, and fried and toasted bread.

The tradition of breakfast started in the Middle Ages. At this time, there were usually only two meals a day; breakfast and dinner. Breakfast was served mid or late morning. The full English breakfast was also enjoyed by many of the working classes. The factory workers needed a big meal in the morning to work long hours.

Today, English breakfast is not a healthy way to start the day but people still like to have this breakfast regularly, especially on weekends. The full English breakfast is so popular, not only because it tastes so good but simply because it has been enjoyed for centuries. It is served everywhere in Britain: in hotels, B&Bs, cafes and restaurants.

This year we also had the opportunity to enjoy the English breakfast in our school. The 3rd and 4th grade students had this breakfast as one of the activities scheduled for the English Week. Without a doubt, it was a different way to start the day and discover an aspect of English culture, its cuisine.
